Tunisia and Italy have reaffirmed their commitment to deepening military cooperation, with a renewed focus on joint training, operational coordination, and regional development.
Tunisian Defense Minister Khaled Sehili hosted Italian Army Chief of Staff Carmine Masiello in the capital on Wednesday, where both officials underscored the growing importance of bilateral defense ties. Talks centered on expanding collaboration in military training, joint exercises, medical support, hydrography, and development efforts, particularly in Tunisia’s southern regions.
Sehili described the Tunisian-Italian relationship as one built on mutual trust and a shared vision for regional peace and stability. He acknowledged Italy’s ongoing support for development projects in under-resourced desert areas and emphasized the need to accelerate the implementation of bilateral defense programs.
General Masiello praised the current level of cooperation, calling it a model of strategic partnership in the Mediterranean. He stressed that continued collaboration would strengthen operational readiness and deliver long-term benefits for both armed forces.
The meeting reflects a broader regional dynamic, where North African nations are seeking closer ties with European partners to address evolving security challenges, including cross-border threats and humanitarian crises.
