Orlando Pirates, having been eliminated in the CAF Champions League semi-finals, are falling behind in the league title race and have parted ways with head coach Jose Riveiro.
The club is looking to rebuild its squad, with striker Fiston Mayele as their primary target.
However, to afford Mayele’s transfer, they need to raise around 12 million rand, meaning some key players might have to be sold.
If Pirates decide to cash in on either Evidence Makgopa or Tshegofatso Mabasa, they will definitely need a replacement. It’s unlikely both players will stay since neither is guaranteed to start every league match.
There are also rumors that the club is looking to sign Masindi Nemtajela. For the head coach role, Orlando Pirates want to bring in a big name to replace Jose Riveiro, with Pitso Mosimane and Benni McCarthy (currently managing the Kenya national team) among the potential candidates.
Pirates aim to learn from this season’s experience and come back stronger with a more stable and improved performance next season.
