Kemi Seba, founder of the Pan-African NGO Urgences Panafricanistes, has formally announced his intention to run in the 2026 presidential election in Benin. In a video posted on X (formerly Twitter) this past Sunday, Seba revealed that after considerable reflection, he has decided to respond to requests from his supporters urging him to enter the race.
“After months, even years, of reflection, I have made the decision to answer your persistent calls to run for the presidency of Benin,” Seba said in the video. His announcement comes amid ongoing political discussions in the country, with many citizens seeking leadership change.
Seba, who also holds a special advisory role with Niger’s president, has been an active voice in Pan-Africanism and has long advocated for the independence and sovereignty of African nations. His decision to run for president is expected to contribute to the ongoing political discourse in Benin as the country prepares for the 2026 elections.
In his message, Seba outlined his goals for the country, focusing on national unity and progress. “We will move forward together and liberate the country,” he stated, emphasizing a desire to address the challenges faced by Beninese citizens. “This is the resurrection of a people who have suffered for too long but can never be erased,” he added.
Known by his full name, Stellio Gilles Robert Capo Chichi, Seba has been involved in various campaigns focused on issues such as neocolonialism and African unity. His candidacy marks a new chapter in Benin’s political landscape as he seeks to engage the electorate with his vision for the future of the country.
As the 2026 elections approach, Seba’s campaign is likely to generate further discussions about the direction of Benin’s political future and the role of new leadership in the country.
