Cape Town has become one of Africa’s leading technology hubs.
Due to the remarkable development it has shown in recent years, it has earned titles such as “Africa’s Tech Capital” and “Startup Capital of Africa.” The city continues to attract significant investments and skilled talent.
More than 450 tech companies are located in the Cape Town–Stellenbosch corridor, employing over 40,000 people. Nearly 60% of all startups in South Africa are concentrated in this area. Among these companies are major players like Aerobotics, SweepSouth, JUMO, and Yoco.
The city’s internet penetration rate stands at 63%, which is quite high compared to the rest of the continent.
Cape Town also supports innovation through over 30 co-working spaces and more than 22 active incubators and accelerators, including CiTi.
The corridor is also home to globally recognized institutions such as the University of Cape Town and Stellenbosch University, ensuring access to a highly skilled workforce.
Cape Town has received substantial foreign investment in software and IT services. It has also highlighted its role in promoting environmental innovation by hosting major events like the Earthshot Prize Week.
With all this infrastructure in place, Cape Town is firmly positioned as one of the most important technology centers in Africa.
