After MTN Nigeria, Airtel Nigeria, the country’s second-largest telecom operator, has announced a price hike. The company has increased the prices of its internet and voice plans by 50%.
With the new adjustment, Airtel’s cheapest data plan is now 2GB, priced at ₦1,500.
The prices for other smaller plans are as follows: 3GB for ₦2,000, 4GB for ₦2,500, and 8GB for ₦3,000. The new pricing for larger plans is as follows: 10GB now costs ₦4,000, 13GB for ₦5,000, 18GB for ₦6,000, and 25GB for ₦8,000.
Airtel Nigeria has also introduced a flat rate of 25 kobo per minute for calls, according to a company representative. A one-minute call on the network now costs around ₦15.
However, these increases have not affected many daily and weekly plans. Subscribers can still purchase the 1-week 5GB plan for ₦1,500.
Additionally, the unlimited plans are still available, including ₦20,000 for 200GB for 30 days, plus 10GB daily after the main data is exhausted, and ₦30,000 for 300GB for 30 days.
These price hikes come after the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) approved a 50% tariff increase on January 20, 2025, creating room for such adjustments.
MTN Nigeria was the first company to implement the increase and received backlash for raising prices by more than 50%. Subsequently, MTN issued an apology to its subscribers.
