Former Zimbabwe national cricket team captain Sean Williams has ended his international career to address his drug addiction.
According to the Zimbabwe Cricket (ZC) statement, he will not be considered for national selection again.
The federation emphasized that all contracted players are expected to uphold the highest standards of professionalism, discipline, team protocols, and anti-doping regulations.
The 39-year-old Williams has scored over 9,000 runs and taken more than 150 wickets across all formats for his country. In September, ahead of the T20 squad for the World Cup Africa Qualifiers in Harare, he withdrew and disclosed that he was voluntarily seeking treatment for drug addiction.
While the federation commended his efforts, it stated that it is not feasible to retain him in the team due to ethical considerations.
“Williams has played a pivotal role in some of the most significant moments in our recent history, leaving a lasting legacy both on and off the field. ZC wishes him strength in his recovery and every success in his future endeavours.”
