Zimbabwe national team assistant coach Takesure Chiragwi has been suspended from the dugout for this Friday’s match against South Africa after slapping one of his own players.
The incident occurred during a league match between Ngezi Platinum and Dynamos.
Chiragwi attributed the incident to a moment of emotional tension:
“Football is a game of emotions. There was chaos everywhere. Everyone was there, but honestly, I don’t even know exactly what happened,” he said.
“That’s football — even the world’s top managers can do something like that in those moments.”
“But of course, nothing can justify what happened. We just wanted to play the game, get the result we needed, and try to control the players, because even the substitutes were frustrated.”
It remains unclear whether Chiragwi will face further suspension in upcoming matches.
