Gemini, the AI assistant, has been integrated into Google Workspace packages.
Previously offered as an add-on product, Gemini is now built into Workspace applications such as Gmail, Docs, Meet, Sheets, and Chat. Users now have access to a continuously available AI assistant within these apps.
Gemini also supports “Project Notebook,” a powerful note-taking and research tool that allows users to upload PDFs, websites, YouTube videos, audio files, Google Docs, or Slides to be summarized and explained.
Zila Tech’s AI Push for Africa
Zila Tech, a partner of Digicloud Africa, is initiating efforts to accelerate the adoption of Google Workspace and Google Education solutions in English-speaking African countries.
Fredrick Barasa Oundo, Customer Success Engineer at Zila Tech, says that as a Kenya-based Google Workspace reseller, they are actively working to raise awareness about the benefits of Gemini within the Workspace product suite.
Zila Tech also sells and supports Google Workspace, Google Workspace for Education, Chrome OS, and Chromebooks, primarily targeting the education, SME, and start-up sectors.
Driving Productivity and Interest with Gemini
Barasa Oundo notes that the adoption of AI has been slow in the region, but the inclusion of Gemini in Workspace is expected to change that:
“Zila Tech is informing the market about Gemini through webinars, face-to-face events, and customer engagements, and the feedback has been positive.”
“Around 80% of the business customers we’ve spoken to are excited about AI—especially for its time-saving and productivity-enhancing capabilities in tasks like email composition and content creation in Google Docs.”
“There is often a fear of the unknown, but Google—particularly with Gemini—can actually help strengthen your security. Google consistently emphasizes that data belongs to the user and is not public, which is helping build trust among organizations,”
Supporting the Education Sector
“Zila Tech is currently planning a joint project with DigiCloud Africa, Google, financial institutions, and digital content developers to help reduce the entry barriers for schools,” says Barasa Oundo.
“For Google Workspace for Education, there are many features we believe can help transform education in Africa. For example, ‘Practice Sets’ in Google Classroom personalize learning and make it more interactive for students. This feature will transform many schools in Kenya in particular,”
“The African market needs much more awareness about the new tools available and how to make the most of them. Our job as stakeholders in Africa is to create that awareness, and I believe the market will grow,” Barasa Oundo concludes.
