Zambia brought together leading artificial intelligence (AI) experts and innovators under the theme “Holding Hands for Zambia’s AI Future” at a national conference.
During the Deep Learning IndabaX 2025 event, the country demonstrated its commitment to becoming an ethical, inclusive, and locally relevant AI innovation hub.
The two-day gathering highlighted Zambia’s progress in AI adoption across various sectors. In healthcare, AI-powered tools such as Dawa Health are improving maternal health outcomes, while in mining, AI-driven exploration by Kobold Metals has helped identify a new copper deposit—showcasing the wide application of AI technologies across the country.
In agriculture, AI-enabled advisory tools have boosted crop productivity by 20–30% in regions affected by climate variability, providing significant benefits to farmers.
The conference also revisited the National Artificial Intelligence Strategy, a key framework guiding the country’s AI-driven transformation. The strategy aims to increase STEM participation from 23% to 40% and expand internet access to 75%.
Artificial intelligence plays a critical role in Zambia’s development, and events like this contribute to strengthening that role even further.
