Zambia is set to receive security training support from Türkiye to enhance its capacity in combating crimes such as money laundering, terrorism financing, and cybercrime. This commitment was reaffirmed following a meeting between Zambia’s Minister of Home Affairs and Internal Security, Jack Mwiimbu, and Türkiye’s Ambassador to Zambia, Huseyin Dicle.
In a joint statement issued by the Zambian government and Türkiye’s Embassy in Lusaka, Minister Mwiimbu welcomed Türkiye’s offer to train Zambia’s security personnel, emphasizing the importance of international collaboration in addressing modern security threats. He also highlighted the government’s openness to foreign partnerships that contribute to national security and economic development.
Beyond security cooperation, Türkiye is also looking to strengthen economic ties with Zambia. Ambassador Dicle noted that Zambia’s stable security environment makes it an attractive destination for foreign investment, with many Turkish companies expressing interest in establishing businesses in the country. He pointed out that sectors such as textiles hold significant potential for growth and collaboration between the two nations.
Mwiimbu encouraged Turkish businesses to explore investment opportunities in Zambia, stressing that increased foreign investment would generate more tax revenue, drive economic development, and create jobs for Zambians.
“Foreign investment in the country will result in more taxes paid to the government, which will enhance economic development, thereby creating wealth for the country,” the statement added.
Zambia also reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening national security and welcomed Türkiye’s support in training security personnel and providing advanced equipment. This collaboration is expected to boost Zambia’s capacity to tackle emerging security challenges.
The meeting was attended by senior officials from Türkiye’s embassy, including Ali Ihsa Ergul, the embassy’s counselor for security cooperation and interior affairs, and Betul Akbal, the embassy’s second secretary.
As Zambia and Türkiye continue to build stronger diplomatic and economic relations, this partnership is expected to foster greater security cooperation and increased investment, contributing to Zambia’s long-term economic growth and regional stability.
