During MWC Barcelona 2025, the Ministry of Technology and Science of Zambia, in collaboration with Huawei, launched the global showcase of Zambia’s smart village at the government industry forum.
The event, titled “Secured, Sovereign & Synergized Network-Cloud Strategy Accelerating National Digitalization,” discussed national transformation paths driven by digital technologies in public services. Over 200 industry leaders and technical experts gathered at the event.
In July 2024, the first smart village site in Zambia was completed after a 30-day construction process. This project not only provided electricity and internet access to the village but also offered remote education and healthcare services.
Li Junfeng, Vice President of Huawei and CEO of the Global Public Sector BU, emphasized during his speech that digital transformation is crucial for enhancing national capabilities and improving citizens’ well-being.
Koh Hong-Eng, Huawei’s Global Chief Public Services Industry Scientist, invited guests to discuss national digital transformation. Felix C. Mutati, Zambia’s Minister of Technology and Science, noted that the Smart Villages Project aligns perfectly with Zambia’s Vision 2030.
The smart education model used in this project aims not only to equip generations with knowledge but also to prepare them with the digital skills needed to succeed in the fourth industrial revolution.
