Zamalek, one of Egypt’s most historic football clubs and second only to Al Ahly in terms of league titles, has been hit with a transfer ban.
The ban, imposed by FIFA, stems from the club’s failure to settle outstanding payments owed to former Moroccan striker Khalid Boutaïb.
Board member Amr Adham announced the development through the club’s official media channels. He confirmed that Zamalek owes Boutaïb a total of €2.4 million, with €983,000 still unpaid.
“The ban was reactivated due to our inability to pay the remaining installments in recent months,” Adham explained.
However, he emphasized the club’s determination to resolve the issue and assured that the debt would be fully settled in the near future.
Zamalek aims to clear the dues before the next transfer window opens.
Boutaïb joined Zamalek in 2019, but his contract was terminated in 2020 after he underwent surgery, which led to a dispute between the player and the club.
