Young protesters in Morocco took to the streets for the ninth consecutive Sunday, calling for a change of government and reforms in the health and education sectors.
This situation has sparked curiosity about the future direction of developments in various areas of the country.
In December this year, Morocco is set to host the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), the continent’s biggest national football tournament.
CAF President Patrice Motsepe stated on Sunday that he is fully confident the tournament — which will feature 24 national teams — will go ahead as planned.
“As CAF, we are absolutely confident that AFCON will take place as scheduled. Morocco is our plan A, plan B, and plan C,” said Motsepe.
“CAF will work hand in hand with the Moroccan government and its people to host the most successful AFCON in history.”
Motsepe also announced plans to revive the African Football League, which was launched with great expectations in 2023 but was discontinued after just one edition.
“Discussions on this matter are ongoing. We are very pleased with the progress made. The African Football League is a very important project, and it will continue,” he added.
