Sudanese Minister of Investment and Development Ahlam Madani Mahdi Sabri highlighted growing Turkish interest in Sudanese markets, expecting increased investments following key economic forums. Speaking to Anadolu Agency during the 12th Turkish-African Business Forum in Istanbul, she emphasized Türkiye’s significant role in Sudan’s economic development.
Strengthening Economic Ties
Sudan and Türkiye maintain long-standing ties, with economic relations steadily growing. Sabri described Türkiye as a “brotherly nation” and noted that bilateral trade currently stands at approximately $500 million. She emphasized Türkiye’s active role in Sudan’s reconstruction and development efforts, with Turkish investors eager to expand their presence.
She also revealed that a Turkish delegation recently visited Sudan for an investment forum, demonstrating strong commitment to long-term cooperation.
Investment Prospects in Key Sectors
Sabri outlined major investment opportunities in Sudan, particularly in infrastructure, energy, agriculture, mining, and manufacturing. She stressed the need for projects in roads, airports, and railways as part of post-war reconstruction, while also highlighting Sudan’s potential in food security due to its vast agricultural resources.
Several Sudanese states, she noted, offer stable and attractive environments for foreign investors, with the government introducing incentives to enhance business conditions.
Legal Reforms to Attract Foreign Capital
To encourage further investment, Sudan is revising its Investment Promotion Law, with new amendments aimed at creating a more investor-friendly environment. Sabri assured that these reforms would facilitate foreign capital inflows and improve business conditions.
“We are committed to enhancing the investment climate and expect these changes to attract new investors,” she stated.
