Turkish organizations, including the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA) and the Türkiye Diyanet Foundation (TDV), have been making transformative contributions across various African nations. Through initiatives such as school construction, humanitarian aid distribution, restoration of historical buildings, vocational training programs, and scholarships, these foundations have carved a unique role in addressing Africa’s needs. Unlike many international organizations, TİKA and TDV’s activities are funded by the charitable contributions of the Turkish people, which sets them apart from other efforts globally.
In South Sudan, a country grappling with the aftermath of civil wars and economic crises, TİKA recently provided food and shelter assistance to hundreds orphans in the capital, Juba. The initiative, carried out in partnership with local organizations, underscores Türkiye’s dedication to alleviating the suffering of vulnerable populations. During a distribution ceremony at the Islamic and Positive Sciences Foundation, Türkiye’s Ambassador to Juba, Metin Ergin, emphasized the strong ties between the Turkish and South Sudanese people and reiterated Türkiye’s commitment to providing aid during challenging times.
In The Gambia, TDV inaugurated water wells and foundation fountains in rural villages like Sutu Sinjang and Bajakarr. These projects are designed to provide sustainable clean water access to approximately 7,000 residents per site. Using solar energy to pump water from deep wells into large storage tanks, the infrastructure also includes separate areas for animals, ensuring a comprehensive approach to community needs. TDV officials highlighted that these projects exemplify their commitment to improving the quality of life in underdeveloped areas and strengthening the bonds between Türkiye and The Gambia.
Moreover, Turkish foundations continue to focus on education and development. TİKA has initiated vocational training programs in various African countries, empowering local communities with skills that drive long-term economic growth. Scholarships offered by TDV enable African students to study in Türkiye, fostering cultural exchange and preparing a generation of skilled professionals equipped to contribute to their home countries’ development.
These efforts extend beyond emergency aid. For instance, Türkiye has delivered humanitarian supplies via ships to countries like Sudan, where conflicts and economic hardships have left millions in need. This holistic approach, combining immediate relief with sustainable development projects, reflects the values and priorities of the Turkish people.
Through these diverse initiatives, TİKA, TDV, and other Turkish foundations demonstrate Türkiye’s unwavering commitment to supporting Africa’s growth and resilience, setting a global standard for impactful humanitarian and development work.
