At the first UCI Road World Championship held in Africa, Slovenian cyclist Tadej Pogačar won the world title for the second time in his career.
The week-long event saw riders compete on a 267.5-kilometer course.
Pogačar, who finished first, completed the race in 6 hours, 21 minutes, and 20 seconds. In doing so, he became the first cyclist in history to win both the Tour de France and the world road race championship in consecutive years. With this achievement, he further cemented his place among the sport’s all-time greats.
Belgium’s Remco Evenepoel finished second with a time of 6:22:48, while Ireland’s Ben Healy claimed third place.
After the race, Pogačar told reporters:
“It was a good experience coming here. Last week in the time trial we had some ups and downs, but this week we managed some beautiful rides and had a good time with the team. Today was a tough race, but really beautiful.”
