Nigerian goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali, who plays for South African Premier League club Chippa United, is expected to leave the team.
Previously not well-known, he made a name for himself last year by leading the Nigerian national team to the final.
The 28-year-old goalkeeper was linked with strong South African clubs like Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates. However, these transfers did not materialize.
Later, his name was also associated with QPR from England and Al Ettifaq from Saudi Arabia, but he ultimately remained at Chippa United.
Now, it is almost certain that he will leave at the end of this season. However, his next destination remains unknown.
Before Nwabali, another Nigerian, Daniel Akpeyi, was the club’s first-choice goalkeeper between 2015 and 2019.
According to Kickoff Online, Chippa United is likely to choose another West African player as Nwabali’s replacement.
The club sees the Nigerian Premier Football League as an important talent pool and may turn to players like Kayode Bankole, Mustapha Lawal, or Serge Obassa.
