One of South Africa’s biggest clubs, Mamelodi Sundowns, is looking to build a squad capable of winning the CAF Champions League.
Their transfer window has been relatively quiet so far, but they are eager to break that silence.
To do so, the club has submitted an offer of around R30 million for Brazilian midfielder Matheusinho. The player is currently on loan at Club do Recife in his home country, where he has been putting in highly impressive performances.
However, Sundowns face a major obstacle. Both his parent club Santa Clara and Club do Recife, who hold a purchase option, are entitled to negotiate for his permanent transfer.
Sundowns’ initial bid of €1.5 million to Santa Clara has already been rejected.
The South African side is now considering revising their offer, as they remain determined to secure the 26-year-old midfielder.
