The Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) engaged in intense clashes near Omdurman and in Sennar state, resulting in civilian casualties, arrests, and heightened military operations. These ongoing battles reflect the prolonged struggle for control across Sudan, with accusations of civilian abuses and rising displacement in conflict zones. On Thursday, fighting escalated between the Sudanese army and the RSF in several areas east of Omdurman. According to Sudan’s Ministry of Health, at least one person was killed and five were injured as a result of RSF’s artillery and drone strikes from positions south and west of Omdurman, which they had previously lost to the army earlier this year. The army reported successfully defending its positions in Wad Al-Bashir, Al-Doha, and Bant neighborhoods, while RSF attacks intensified.
The clashes are part of a broader Sudanese military offensive that began in September to reclaim control of the capital, Khartoum, which has been divided by the conflict. While the army has retaken much of Omdurman, some areas remain contested, with the RSF maintaining strongholds in other parts of Sudan.
In a related operation, Sudanese military forces conducted extensive sweeps through villages west of Al-Dinder in Sennar state, detaining numerous suspected RSF collaborators. The RSF initially captured Al-Dinder in July, establishing a local administration but has since faced accusations of committing civilian abuses, including killings, looting, and forced displacement.
The army regained control of Al-Dinder on October 23 after heavy fighting but has reported recent RSF redeployments in surrounding villages. Military sources described operations in Kamrab, Al-Farish, Abd Al-Banat, Manofli, and Abu Hashim, noting the seizure of motorcycles and light weapons. These villages are reported to have residents sympathetic to the RSF, many of whom belong to the Rizeigat tribe.
To consolidate control, the Sudanese military has established checkpoints between Wad Al-Abbas and Karkoj as part of an advance toward strategic locations in Sennar state. The situation underscores the deepening humanitarian and security crisis as Sudan’s internal conflict continues to impact civilian populations across multiple regions.
