The Sudanese army has continued its offensive to reclaim territory north of Khartoum, with intense fighting against the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in Bahri persisting through Friday.
Reports from the region highlight fierce clashes across multiple fronts as the army pushes deeper into the region. In recent days, the army successfully retook control of several key areas in northern Bahri, including Halfaia, Shambat, and Kadaru, previously held by the RSF.
The army has also made significant gains in central Khartoum, advancing to the Al-Maqarin area, where heavy fighting continues over control of vital locations, including the presidential palace. RSF forces, entrenched in southern and central Khartoum, are defending their positions using artillery and sniper units positioned in high-rise buildings.
As the conflict intensifies, large numbers of civilians have fled parts of Khartoum, and the army has secured much of Omdurman, the city to the north.
The conflict, which began in April 2023, has caused significant casualties and displacement, with over 20,000 deaths reported by the UN and local authorities. However, research by US universities places the death toll closer to 130,000, while approximately 14 million people have been displaced.
