Sudan has withdrawn its ambassador from Kenya and announced a series of retaliatory actions against Nairobi following Kenya’s decision to host a conference for the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) and their allies.
Deputy Foreign Minister Hussein El-Amin El-Fadil made the announcement during a press conference, stating that Sudan viewed Kenya’s actions as interference in its internal affairs and a violation of international conventions. In response, Sudan will begin restricting Kenyan imports, including a ban on Kenyan tea, and plans to file complaints against Kenya with international organizations.
The Sudanese government condemned Kenya’s decision to host the RSF-backed conference, arguing that it undermines Sudan’s sovereignty. Meanwhile, Kenya defended its actions, saying the conference was aimed at facilitating peace efforts in Sudan. However, El-Fadil accused Kenyan President William Ruto of meddling in Sudan’s domestic affairs and openly supporting the RSF.
This is not the first diplomatic tension between the two nations. El-Fadil noted that Sudan had previously withdrawn its ambassador from Nairobi due to Kenya’s alleged failure to accord proper diplomatic recognition to the commander of the RSF.
As tensions escalate, Sudan’s latest measures signal a deepening rift between the two nations, adding another layer of complexity to the ongoing conflict in Sudan.
