On Monday, Hussein Nayil Ahmed, the Director General of the Civil Aviation Authority, met with Mohammed Ibrahim Al-Sada, the Ambassador of Qatar. Their discussion, which focused on advancing airspace openness and enhancing cooperation in civil aviation, underscored Qatar’s strong commitment to supporting Sudan in rebuilding war-torn areas.
The meeting, held in a warm and collaborative atmosphere, explored plans for establishing a modern air navigation center in Portsudan and enhancing capacity-building for Civil Aviation Authority staff. They also discussed expanding Portsudan International Airport’s runway by 500 meters and extending aircraft parking facilities. Additionally, they highlighted the need for global aircraft maintenance centers to make Portsudan Airport a regional hub for such services.
Hussein Nayil emphasized the importance of establishing an air route connecting the Gulf to South America, a route heavily used by Qatar Airways. Both parties agreed on the need to sign a memorandum of understanding between their civil aviation authorities, a commitment which the Qatari Ambassador promised to pursue vigorously.
Hussein Nayil and his delegation expressed their heartfelt gratitude for the warm welcome and praised Qatar’s extensive support for Sudan through the efforts of its embassy, led by Ambassador Mohammed Ibrahim Al-Sada.
