The Club World Cup continues with all its excitement. A total of 32 teams from around the world are participating in this tournament, including four teams from Africa.
Representing African football, this year’s CAF Champions League finalist and South African champion, Mamelodi Sundowns, secured the first win for the continent.
The South African side defeated Ulsan Hyundai — who finished third in the Korean League this season — with a score of 1-0. The only goal of the match was scored in the 36th minute by striker Iqraam Rayners.
With this result, Sundowns are currently at the top of their group, leading by 3 points. German powerhouse Borussia Dortmund and Brazil’s traditional club Fluminense both follow with 1 point each, while Ulsan Hyundai sits at the bottom of the group.
In the earlier matches of the tournament, Egypt’s Al Ahly drew 0-0 with Inter Miami, who featured Lionel Messi.
Tunisia’s Esperance suffered a 2-0 defeat against Flamengo. Morocco’s strong side Wydad is set to face Manchester City.
