South Africa managed to defeat New Zealand by six wickets in the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup.
After being bowled out for just 69 and losing by 10 wickets to England on Friday, South Africa bounced back in style. This time, they dismissed New Zealand for 231 runs and chased down the target in only 40.5 overs, delivering an impressive performance.
Tazmin Brits was the star of the match, scoring a brilliant 101 runs. This was her fourth century in her last five matches. She also made history by becoming the first player ever to score five ODI centuries in a single season.
Having lost to England earlier, South Africa now have one win and one loss in the group stage. Although they currently sit fifth in the standings, defeating last year’s T20 World Cup champions, New Zealand, has given them a major morale boost.
Ahead of them in the group are Australia, Bangladesh, India, and England. The top four teams will advance to the next round, and this victory gives South Africa a significant advantage in the race for qualification.
