South Africa defeated Scotland with a final score of 32(19)-15 (9).
Although the 17-point difference might suggest a one-sided match, Scotland pushed the world champion South Africa to their limits.
The game was an intense and thrilling experience. Scotland was forced to play 20 minutes with 14 players due to Scott Cummings receiving a red card, and they couldn’t capitalize on the opportunities they created.
At times, Scotland played with significant pressure on South Africa, but the Springboks responded effectively each time.
Early in the match, Handre Pollard exploited Scotland’s narrow defense with a precise cross-kick, taking advantage of a penalty. Mapimpi managed to score despite Tom Jordan’s best efforts.
Later, Cummings was penalized for a dangerous play, initially receiving a yellow card, which was then upgraded to a red. Scotland briefly took the lead over South Africa with penalties, showing impressive play for much of the first half.
Afterward, coach Rassie Erasmus brought on star players like RG Snyman, Pieter-Steph du Toit, Siya Kolisi, Malcolm Marx, Vincent Koch, and Gerhard Steenekamp.
The lead was cut to 19-15, but Pollard’s scores gradually extended the gap, allowing South Africa to break Scotland’s resilience and secure the win.
