Minister Malatsi Allocates R710 Million to SA Connect for Expanded Internet Access
Minister of Communications and Digital Technologies, Solly Malatsi, announced that R710 million of the department’s R2.545 billion budget for the 2025/26 financial year will be allocated to the SA Connect programme.
The programme aims to provide all South Africans with access to affordable, reliable, and high-speed internet.
Commenting on the investment, Minister Malatsi stated:
“Through this budget, it is our task to amplify our impact and ensure that digital access reaches every corner of South Africa.”
SA Connect was launched following Cabinet’s approval of the national broadband policy in 2013.
It supports the vision of the National Development Plan, which aims to build an inclusive, equitable, and prosperous information society and knowledge economy by 2030 through a “seamless information infrastructure.”
This investment marks a significant step toward achieving the programme’s infrastructure goals.
