South Africa secured a hard-fought victory against Bangladesh in the Women’s Rugby World Cup, edging past their opponents by three wickets in a thrilling encounter.
In this close contest, Chloe Tryon scored 62 runs off 69 balls, while Marizanne Kapp contributed 56 runs from 71 balls. The hero of the previous match, Nadine de Klerk, once again rose to the occasion, finishing the game unbeaten on 37 runs from 29 balls.
With this result, South Africa came from behind to win for the second consecutive time and climbed to third place in the standings.
Bangladesh’s batting strategy was built around preserving their wickets from the very start. The powerplay phase progressed slowly, but the plan was to attack strongly in the later stages. Shorna Akter delivered an impressive performance, and their strategy seemed to be working as intended.
The plan quickly began to pay off — Tazmin Brits was dismissed with the very first ball, and captain Laura Wolvaardt narrowly escaped a similar fate a few overs later. However, South Africa once again showed their fighting spirit and managed to emerge victorious in the end.
Chloe Tryon and Marizanne Kapp led South Africa’s comeback with crucial half-centuries, while Nadine de Klerk sealed the win to lift the Proteas into third place.
