Somaliland President Abdirahman Mohamed Abdullahi Irro arrived in Nairobi on Monday to begin a multi-day working visit aimed at deepening bilateral ties with Kenya and strengthening Somaliland’s international diplomatic presence.
Accompanied by a senior delegation that includes key ministers and security officials, President Irro is scheduled to hold formal talks with Kenyan President William Ruto and other top officials. Discussions are expected to focus on trade cooperation, regional security, and diplomatic engagement.
According to an official statement from the Somaliland Presidency, the visit underscores the strategic importance Nairobi holds in Somaliland’s regional outreach. “Key matters of mutual interest will be discussed, particularly those of significance to the Republic of Somaliland,” the statement noted.
The trip will also include meetings with representatives of international organizations and diplomatic missions based in Nairobi — part of Somaliland’s broader effort to expand foreign relations and increase visibility in East Africa.
A central moment in the visit will be the inauguration of a new, state-of-the-art Somaliland Representative Office in Kenya’s capital — a milestone for the region’s diplomatic engagement and a symbol of Somaliland’s growing presence on the international stage.
Since taking office, President Irro has prioritized regional diplomacy, making visits to Djibouti and the United Arab Emirates. His Kenya visit is widely seen as part of a broader strategy to forge deeper political, economic, and security partnerships across the Horn of Africa.
