Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud arrived in Tripoli, Libya, on Sunday for an official visit aimed at deepening diplomatic ties between the two nations.
Upon arrival, Libyan officials warmly received President Mohamud and his delegation, emphasizing the historical relationship between Somalia and Libya.
During his visit, President Mohamud is scheduled to meet with Libyan Presidential Council President Mohamed Yunus Al-Menfi. Their discussions are expected to cover security cooperation, political relations, efforts to combat human trafficking, and the repatriation of Somali migrants detained in Libya.
Somalia, in collaboration with the International Organization for Migration, has recently facilitated the return of hundreds of Somali nationals who fell victim to trafficking networks. Libya remains a significant transit hub for migrants from Africa and the Middle East attempting to reach Europe, often facing dangerous conditions along the journey.
