Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud met with Djiboutian President Ismail Omar Guelleh in Djibouti on Wednesday to deepen bilateral relations and enhance strategic cooperation.
The leaders discussed collaboration in key sectors, including security, economic development, trade, and political coordination. Both presidents emphasized the strong historical ties between their nations and reaffirmed their commitment to regional stability.
President Mohamud expressed gratitude for Djibouti’s support, particularly in peacekeeping and counterterrorism. He praised Djibouti’s role in Somalia’s state-building efforts and its contributions to regional security.
“Djibouti has played a critical role in Somalia’s state-building process, and we are deeply thankful for their unwavering solidarity,” Mohamud stated.
President Guelleh reiterated Djibouti’s commitment to Somalia, highlighting the importance of cooperation in governance and security.
“Djibouti has always stood by Somalia, and we will continue to provide support in the fight against terrorism and in strengthening institutions,” Guelleh said.
Djibouti remains a key troop-contributing country to African Union peacekeeping efforts in Somalia. It is expected to play a major role in the upcoming African Union Support and Stabilisation Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM), set to replace ATMIS in July 2025.
