South Africa’s grocery chain Shoprite Checkers has announced a smart shopping trolley project designed to make shopping easier for customers and reduce waiting times.
Launched as a pilot, this project allows customers to scan items and track them in their trolley as they shop.
The device, called the Xpress Trolley, lets shoppers monitor the total cost of their items as they place them in the trolley, enabling them to pay without waiting in a queue at the checkout.
The Xpress Trolley is equipped with a touchscreen mounted on the trolley’s handle.
Customers can track the value of the items they place in the trolley directly on the screen. The screen also shows the location of products within the store, making it easier for shoppers to find what they need.
Using the bank card information stored in their Checkers Sixty60 profile, customers can pay for the items in their trolley directly from the trolley itself, further simplifying the purchasing process.
