Manchester United’s young midfielder Sekou Kone is poised to receive his first senior national team call-up.
Mali’s head coach Tom Saintfiet has confirmed that both Kone and Barcelona’s young talent Ibrahim Diarra will soon be called up to the national team.
Kone previously contributed to Mali’s third-place finish at the 2023 U17 World Cup. Thanks to his performance in that tournament, the English giant Manchester United began showing interest in him. He was transferred last summer and became a regular player for Manchester United’s U21 team.
By the end of the season, Kone had played in 9 matches and scored 1 goal. He was also included in the squad for 3 Premier League games but did not get any playing time.
This season, it is expected that he will be loaned to another club to gain more minutes on the pitch.
Several clubs from Belgium, France, and Switzerland have shown interest in signing the young player.
