A Turkish humanitarian vessel carrying over 1,600 tons of essential supplies docked at Port Sudan on Monday, providing critical relief to a nation grappling with one of the world’s most dire humanitarian crises.
Dubbed the “Ship of Goodness,” the vessel is the second dispatched by the Turkish Humanitarian Relief Foundation (IHH) and marks the fourth humanitarian delivery from Türkiye to Sudan since conflict broke out in April 2023. The ship delivered food parcels, clothing, hygiene products, and shelter materials aimed at alleviating the suffering of displaced and vulnerable populations across the country.
The arrival was met with an official welcoming ceremony attended by Türkiye’s Ambassador to Khartoum, Fatih Yildiz, IHH Board Member Mehmet Enes Arikan, Sudanese Humanitarian Aid Commissioner Selva Adem, and local government representatives.
Ambassador Yildiz highlighted the symbolic and material significance of the aid shipment, describing it as a gesture of solidarity in a time of need. “The continued arrival of humanitarian support from Türkiye not only brings relief but also boosts morale for the Sudanese people,” he said during remarks at the port.
Speaking to Anadolu Agency, Yildiz confirmed that the ship is the fourth Turkish humanitarian delivery since the onset of the conflict. Two previous vessels were coordinated by Türkiye’s Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD), while the IHH has now dispatched two of its own.
The shipment is part of IHH’s broader relief campaign under the slogan “Guided by Goodness, En Route to Sudan.” According to IHH representative Mehmet Enes Arikan, the supplies will be distributed in cooperation with local partners, targeting communities displaced by violence and those suffering from severe shortages of basic necessities.
Since April 15, 2023, Sudan has been mired in a brutal conflict between the army and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), resulting in thousands of deaths and the displacement of millions. With much of the infrastructure damaged and humanitarian access severely limited, aid deliveries via sea have become a vital lifeline.
The IHH has pledged to continue its relief efforts and affirmed its commitment to stand with the Sudanese people through ongoing assistance and long-term humanitarian partnerships.
