Mohamed Salah once again started on the bench as Liverpool faced Eintracht Frankfurt.
The Egyptian star had experienced a similar situation earlier in the season against Galatasaray. Following the Frankfurt match, he removed all mentions of Liverpool from his social media profiles, sparking widespread speculation and debate.
Salah had extended his contract with Liverpool last season, but this year he has struggled to meet expectations, recording just 3 goals and 3 assists in 12 appearances. His dip in form has led to increasing criticism, while Liverpool’s first run of four consecutive defeats since 2014 has further intensified the pressure on him.
After the match, Salah deleted the phrase “Liverpool FC footballer” from his X (formerly Twitter) bio. He also replaced his profile picture—previously showing him holding the Premier League trophy—with a photo of himself alongside his two daughters, and completely removed his banner image.
Liverpool are set to face Brentford away on Saturday. Manager Arne Slot is expected to make at least two changes to the lineup, depending on the fitness of Alexander Isak and Jeremie Frimpong. Salah, meanwhile, will be fighting to regain his place in the starting eleven.
However, if this tension continues to escalate, a potential transfer for Salah sooner than expected cannot be ruled out.
