The President of the United Transformation Movement (UTM), Dr. Dalitso Kabambe, has called on the Southern African Development Community (SADC) and the African Union (AU) to intervene as Malawi faces worsening political and economic challenges.
Dr. Kabambe’s appeal follows nationwide protests sparked by a deepening economic crisis, fuel shortages, and growing public dissatisfaction with President Lazarus Chakwera’s administration.
In an open letter addressed to President Chakwera, Dr. Kabambe proposed a six-point agenda aimed at stabilizing the country and averting further unrest.
Among the key issues highlighted was the urgent need to address Malawi’s fuel shortages, which have driven up black-market prices, increased the cost of living, and disrupted economic activity. Dr. Kabambe urged immediate action to restore fuel supply chains and reduce reliance on informal markets.
The UTM leader’s call underscores the severity of the crisis, which has drawn widespread public and political concern. He emphasized the need for swift and decisive action to tackle these challenges and bring relief to Malawians.
