President William Ruto met with CIA Director William Burns at State House on Monday, focusing on enhancing security cooperation to combat terrorism and related challenges.
A statement from State House indicated that the discussions aimed to strengthen collaboration in effectively addressing security threats in the region.
President Ruto highlighted that regional peace and security have notably improved, attributing this progress to strong partnerships with international allies.
“We have made significant strides in mitigating the risks posed by terrorism, radicalization, violent extremism, and organized crime,” he stated.
The President reaffirmed the government’s commitment to remaining vigilant against these threats, emphasizing the importance of protecting the gains achieved in peace, stability, democracy, and economic growth.
In recent years, the CIA and Kenya have strengthened their cooperation on security matters, particularly in countering the influence of Alshabab and other extremist militia groups.
This collaboration has involved intelligence sharing and joint operations to dismantle terror networks operating in the region.
President Ruto’s commitment to security has been underscored by his recent engagements, including his first official visit to the White House in May 2024, where he discussed regional stability and security cooperation with U.S. officials.
