Mohamed Hamdan Daglo, leader of the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), reaffirmed his commitment to preserving Sudan’s unity and advancing the country’s transition to civilian rule, despite ongoing conflict with the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF), which has now entered its 21st month.
In a recent audio statement, Daglo rejected calls from the anti-war Tagadum bloc, which proposed the formation of a separate government in RSF-controlled regions. He emphasized that the RSF remains devoted to the unity of Sudan and its people, envisioning a “new Sudan” built on the principles of freedom, justice, and peace within a democratic framework.
Daglo also made it clear that the RSF does not aim to replace the SAF, but instead advocates for the establishment of a professional army under civilian oversight. He stressed the importance of inclusivity, rejecting any form of discrimination based on religion, region, culture, or ethnicity.
Meanwhile, the SAF continues to reject negotiations with the RSF, insisting on the dissolution of the paramilitary group and the integration of its forces into the national army.
Daglo also addressed ongoing concerns regarding lawlessness in territories controlled by the RSF. He expressed deep regret over the violations that have occurred and vowed to take stronger measures to address the situation, emphasizing that those responsible for such acts would be held accountable.
Despite these assurances, there have been reports of attacks on civilians in Al-Jazirah state, allegedly carried out by RSF fighters after a local commander defected to the SAF. This raises concerns over Daglo’s ability to maintain control over his forces and ensure civilian safety.
