According to the Sudan Doctors Network, the killings took place on Wednesday when RSF fighters reportedly rounded up and shot civilians in the area. The group described the incident as part of a broader campaign of “targeted killings based on identity” being carried out by the RSF in various parts of Sudan.
“This heinous act forms part of the ethnic cleansing and genocide campaign being waged against innocent civilians in North Kordofan and Darfur,” the medical group said in a statement, condemning what it called “shameful international silence.”
The RSF has not yet commented on the allegations.
The paramilitary force claimed control over Umm Dam Haj Ahmed on Monday, shortly after capturing Al Fasher, a key city in Darfur that had been under siege since mid-2024. Several human rights groups have accused the RSF of mass executions, ethnic targeting, and widespread destruction in areas under its control.
The World Health Organization (WHO) condemned the ongoing attacks, calling for the protection of civilians, medical workers, and humanitarian staff. “We urge an immediate end to hostilities and the safe delivery of life-saving aid,” WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said on X (formerly Twitter).
The International Organization for Migration (IOM) estimates that at least 1,850 people fled North Kordofan on Monday alone, including 1,000 residents from Umm Dam Haj Ahmed.
Since the start of the conflict in April 2023 between the RSF and the Sudanese Armed Forces, more than 20,000 people have been killed and 15 million displaced, making it one of Africa’s most devastating humanitarian crises in recent years.
