RS Berkane have won the CAF Confederation Cup, Africa’s second most prestigious club competition.
The Moroccan side had already clinched the domestic league title with a 13-point lead and now capped off their dream season with continental glory.
In the first leg of the final, RS Berkane defeated Tanzania’s Simba SC 2–0 thanks to goals from Mamadou Lamine Camara and Oussama Lamlioui. The second leg ended in a 1–1 draw, securing the trophy for the Moroccan team on aggregate.
In yesterday’s match, Simba initially took the lead with a goal from Joshua Mutale. However, they couldn’t hold on to their advantage. In the 50th minute, Yusuph Kagoma received a second yellow card and was sent off, leaving Simba with 10 men. Although they found the net again in the 77th minute, the goal was ruled out after a VAR check.
Finally, in the 90+3rd minute, Sounmaila Sidibe scored the equalizer, ending Simba’s hopes of a comeback. Despite falling short in the final, Simba were widely praised for their impressive run throughout the tournament.
For RS Berkane, the victory was a perfect conclusion to a phenomenal season, as they added a continental title to their domestic dominance.
