36-year-old Nigerian centre-back Leon Balogun has expressed his sadness at learning of his Rangers departure without being given the chance to say goodbye to the fans.
With his contract set to expire at the end of May, the experienced defender said in an Instagram post that had he known the final two matches were his last for the club, he would have made sure to bid a proper farewell.
Balogun made 30 appearances this season, including 21 starts. He previously described playing for Rangers as an “honour, privilege, and pleasure.” However, it now seems that an era is coming to an end and the club will part ways with the veteran defender.
In addition to Balogun, Ianis Hagi and Tom Lawrence are also expected to leave the club. Meanwhile, loan players Vaclav Cerny, Rafael Fernandes, and Neraysho Kasanwirjo will return to their parent clubs.
Having reached the quarter-finals of the UEFA Cup, Rangers now appear set to enter a period of restructuring and rebuilding.
