FC Pyramids, a club from Egypt, have been crowned champions of the CAF Champions League, the most prestigious club competition in African football.
The first leg of the final, played in South Africa, had ended in a 1-1 draw. However, FC Pyramids managed to overcome Sundowns in the second leg at home.
This match held great significance for FC Pyramids, who had previously lost the league title to Al Ahly. In the 23rd minute, Fiston Mayele put the Egyptian side ahead with a powerful strike. The first half ended with FC Pyramids leading 1-0.
Early in the second half, in the 56th minute, Ahmed Samy scored his team’s second goal with an assist from Mohamed Chibi. Although Sundowns had more possession throughout the match, they were unable to deliver a decisive final blow.
In the 75th minute, Iqraam Rayners scored for Sundowns, reducing the deficit to just one. However, this goal was not enough for the South African side. The match ended 2-1 in favor of FC Pyramids.
With this result, FC Pyramids won the CAF Champions League for the first time in their history.
