In yesterday’s Champions League clash between Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain, Moroccan full-back Achraf Hakimi was forced off the pitch in pain following a challenge by Luis Diaz.
Diaz received a red card for the foul, while Hakimi was seen in tears from the impact of the challenge.
The severity of the injury is not yet known. However, with PSG and the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) approaching, the Moroccan national team is particularly reliant on him.
The tournament is set to begin in Morocco in December, leaving Hakimi with limited time to recover.
Earlier this year, Hakimi expressed how determined he was to lift the trophy on home soil, saying:
“The tournament is approaching fast, and it remains our top priority. We have a big responsibility to win in front of our fans. We know the expectations are high, but we’re ready to give everything for our country.”
The star player was spotted leaving the stadium on crutches and wearing a protective boot after the match.
His club is waiting for test results to determine when he will return, but current images suggest that the recovery period could be lengthy.
