The CAF Champions League semi-final matches have begun. In this tournament, which will determine the strongest team in Africa, two giants faced off.
The leaders of the South African league, Sundowns, who are 12 points clear at the top, hosted Al Ahly — the club with the most CAF Champions League titles in history.
Although Sundowns dominated possession with 73%, the more experienced Al Ahly created more dangerous chances. However, South Africa’s national team goalkeeper, Ronwen Williams, made crucial saves to keep his team from conceding a goal. The match ended in a 0-0 draw.
This result gives an advantage to Al Ahly, who will play the return leg at home. The second leg will be played on April 25, and the winner of that match will advance to the final.
Today, another South African team, Orlando Pirates, will host another Egyptian side, FC Pyramids, in the second semi-final.
