The plane carrying the Nigerian national football team developed a crack in its windscreen during the flight, forcing it to make an emergency landing.
The incident occurred following their match against Lesotho, as the team was en route to Uyo. The aircraft was forced to land just 25 minutes after takeoff.
The Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) confirmed that a “serious crack” had appeared on the plane’s windscreen while airborne. As a result, the aircraft had to land in Luanda, the capital of Angola, for standard refuelling and safety checks.
On board were several star players, including Victor Osimhen of Galatasaray, Wilfred Ndidi of Beşiktaş, Alex Iwobi, Calvin Bassey, and Samuel Chukwueze of Fulham, as well as Ademola Lookman of Atalanta.
Their respective clubs have extended messages of support and well wishes to the players.
