Nigerian star Victor Osimhen has become the highest-scoring foreign player in a single season in Galatasaray history.
Despite the season not being fully completed, the prolific striker has already netted 36 goals across all competitions, surpassing the 35-goal record set 24 years ago by Mário Jardel. Watching the match, Jardel greeted Osimhen’s record-breaking goal with joy and applauded the Nigerian forward.
The 26-year-old currently leads the Turkish Süper Lig scoring chart with 24 goals. He has also scored six goals in the UEFA Europa League and five in the Turkish Cup.
With a brace in yesterday’s final, Osimhen not only secured Galatasaray’s Turkish Cup triumph but also became the first foreign player in the club’s history to score twice in a cup final.
If Galatasaray defeats Kayserispor this weekend, they will be crowned champions for the third consecutive season. Osimhen is undeniably one of the biggest driving forces behind this success.
In his debut season, he overcame early adaptation challenges and directly contributed to 43 goals, completely reshaping the dynamics of the team.
