Orlando Pirates, who were eliminated in the semi-finals of the CAF Champions League and finished second in the South African League, are preparing for the upcoming season with major ambitions.
The South African side, aiming for success in both competitions, has nearly overhauled its entire squad during this transfer window.
The club’s latest signing is Abdoulaye Mariko from Djoliba AC. The Malian midfielder, who plays as a playmaker, made seven appearances in last year’s CAF Champions League. His experience on the continental stage is expected to bring added value to the Pirates’ midfield.
With Mariko’s arrival, Orlando Pirates have now completed their 10th signing of the window, having already brought in Kabelo Kgositsile, Masindi Nemtajela, Nkosikhona Ndaba, Tshepo Mashiloane, Sihle Nduli, Tsepang Moremi, Sinoxolo Kwayiba, Yanela Mbuthuma, and Sipho Mbule.
In recent years, Mamelodi Sundowns have dominated South African football. The big question now is: can these new signings help Orlando Pirates put an end to Sundowns’ reign?
