Orlando Pirates has invited Zambia national team striker Andrew Phiri for a two-week trial.
The prolific forward has scored 33 league goals in the last two seasons. The 23-year-old talent, who currently plays for Maestro United, is known for his high productivity on the field.
His impressive performances earned him a call-up to the national team, and he has previously excelled in Zambia’s U17, U20, and U23 squads.
Orlando Pirates has struggled to get consistent performances from their strikers this season, and Phiri’s arrival could be the solution to their goal-scoring woes.
He could bring his sharp attacking play to the team or push players like Evidence Makgopa and Tshegofatso to step up and compete for a starting role.
Additionally, last season’s top performer, 28-year-old Mabasa, has been linked with a move away from the club at the end of the season. If he departs, Phiri could serve as a strong alternative in the attack.
Furthermore, Pirates are also monitoring Jomo Cosmos forward Bright Ndlovu and Marumo Gallants striker Junior Zindoga.
Their interest in multiple strikers shows the club’s determination to strengthen its attacking options.
