A significant breakthrough has been made in Rivers State, Nigeria, where a suspect involved in a child trafficking operation has been apprehended. Authorities are now actively investigating to identify and capture any additional individuals linked to the trafficking network.
Local police successfully rescued 16 children and arrested a female suspect believed to be central to the trafficking ring. The children were discovered in an estate in the Ozuoba community, Obio/Akpor Local Government Area, following an extensive intelligence operation triggered by a crucial tip-off.
Police Superintendent Mrs. Iringe-Koko confirmed that the case has been transferred to the Commissioner of Police Monitoring Unit for further investigation. This intervention is seen as a major step forward in the region’s fight against child trafficking, demonstrating law enforcement’s dedication to combating such serious crimes and protecting vulnerable children.
Residents had previously raised concerns about the suspect, who was frequently seen returning home with various children. Witnesses reported that the woman had been bringing children from nearby communities and churches. On Sunday, after being questioned about the large group of children in her care and failing to provide a satisfactory explanation, the suspect was reported to the police.
Additional information reveals that the suspect had been living in a fenced compound with numerous children for over two years. This has prompted further investigation as authorities work to dismantle the trafficking ring and ensure that all involved individuals are held accountable.
