Nigeria’s National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested several individuals involved in drug trafficking, including a 50-year-old businessman caught ingesting 90 wraps of cocaine at Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu.
The suspect, intercepted during an Ethiopian Airlines flight from Addis Ababa, excreted 90 pellets of cocaine weighing 2.019kg. The NDLEA revealed that the businessman, under surveillance for months, confessed to smuggling drugs to fund his struggling phone and accessories business.
In Lagos, a separate operation dismantled a cocaine distribution cartel, leading to the arrest of a 42-year-old coordinator and five associates with 2.412kg of cocaine.
Additionally, a 58-year-old Chinese national linked to a trans-border drug syndicate was apprehended in Lagos, with 750g of cocaine, methamphetamine, and weighing scales recovered during searches.
These arrests highlight the NDLEA’s intensified efforts to combat drug trafficking across Nigeria.
