There will be a change in captaincy for the South African national team.
For a long time, the role had been held by Mamelodi Sundowns goalkeeper Ronwen Williams. Now, Orlando Pirates centre-back Nkosinathi Sibisi will take over as captain.
Sibisi will wear the captain’s armband for the first time in the upcoming friendly matches against Tanzania and Mozambique. These games will mark the beginning of his leadership on the international stage.
In addition, nine players from Orlando Pirates — a team that narrowly missed out on trophies this season — have been called up to the national squad ahead of these friendlies.
The selected players are: Sipho Chaine, Deano van Rooyen, Nkosinathi Sibisi, Mbekezeli Mbokazi, Simphiwe Selepe, Thalente Mbatha, Patrick Maswanganyi, Rele Mofokeng, and Mohau Nkota.
The match against Tanzania will be played on Friday, 6 June at 19:30, while the game against Mozambique will take place on Tuesday, 10 June at 19:30.
